Chalupsky: Downwind Surfski Lesson

This is another version of the popular video we did with Oscar. We have tried to show some of the main decisions that he is making. The blinking red oval shape shows where the surfski is aiming. It is very hard to display where Oscar looks because he literally scans the quadrant in front of him every 1-2 seconds in order to select the best options. Left and Right signs show the more general change of direction just to emphasize that you don’t need to paddle in a straight line but focus on catching each wave in the direction it moves (or 90 degrees to the line of its crest). Speed sign is showing you when he is going with close to his maximum speed. The rest of the time he either stays on the wave crest or he maintains his “average” speed so he could jump on a wave easier when an opportunity arises.
