The Freedom Outrigger Project

Here’s a perspective on canoe and kayak from veteran LAPD officer Jerry Guy, two-time Olympian Cliff Meidl, and Wounded Warrior, Greg Crouse. Jerry lost his left leg at 23 years old while on duty with The LAPD. Cliff Meidl, at age 20, came in contact with 30,000 volts of electricity, a voltage 5 times greater than the electric chair! As a result of the accident Cliff lost the use of his legs. He found his way to the Olympic games twice as a result of Outrigger Canoe racing. Greg Crouse, US Army, lost his leg and became a member of the Freedom Outrigger Project, medal winner in the World Sprints 2008, he now races with IMUA Outrigger Canoe in Newport Beach CA.
